Natural Sleeping Pills Just Don't Work
61Natural Sleeping Pills – The Good, the Bad and the Scary
Who Am I to Say Natural Sleeping Pills are Good or Bad?
First of all, I am not a doctor.
I am not a pharmaceutical representative, pharmacist, dietitian or certified health specialists of any kind.
I am not a supporter of holistic medicine nor do I discount the benefits that holistic medicine may or may not provide.
I am just a guy who has a couple sleeping disorders and occasionally has a hard time getting to sleep at night.
Like most Americans over 40, I don’t take care of myself like I should.
I carry around a little extra weight with no intentions of doing a whole lot about it, I don’t eat well and I’m not a regular exerciser.
I do walk a lot at work and like to ride my bicycle to work every now and then.
Based on all of this information, I am a prime candidate for a sleeping disorder like insomnia (and possibly cardiac arrest).
Why Would Anyone Need a Sleeping Pill?
There are many reasons for poor sleep.
Bad sleeping habits are the #1 reason some people use sleeping pills, the clinical term for this is "Sleep Hygiene".
People with poor sleep hygiene are prime candidates for sleeping disorder like insomnia, daytime sleepiness and fatigue.
There are other, less obvious causes for mild insomnia.
Exposure to bright light just before bedtime or shortly before bedtime can be a 'trigger' for a mild sleeping disorder that makes it difficult to fall asleep.
This same disorder can also be activated by simply resisting the urge to fall asleep which then triggers a "second wind", for lack of a better term, which then can temporarily make it difficult to fall asleep afterward.
Many problems of physical or emotional discomfort can be remedied by following proper sleep hygiene principles
When the reason for insomnia is pain, illness, drugs, or stress, the cause must be treated medically and most often chemically.
Sleep disorders are treatable.
These include sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia, restless leg syndrome and the circadian rhythm sleep disorders.
The elderly don’t sleep as deeply and are more easily awoken by disturbances from their surroundings and may lose the ability to stay asleep through out the night.
These methods range from returning to sleep on the floor since beds are a relatively recent invention in human history, to products which lift blankets off one's feet to many kinds of "memory foam" which create a surface customized to an individual's body position.
Looking for a Sleeping Pill, Natural or Otherwise?
BE CAREFUL!
Not all sleeping pills work the same way.
Many natural sleeping pills have different chemical properties and mechanisms of activation and it’s the same for pharmaceutical sleeping pills also.
Some sleeping pills work very well, some are just OK and some don't work at all.
Some sleeping pills have interesting or annoying side effects like “hiccups” and “sweaty feet”; some have very serious side effects like “liver failure”.
So how do you know which type of sleeping pill are you getting, or better yet, how do you know which type of sleeping pill you need?
You are going to need current and relevant information about the sleeping pills that are available.
If you don't have the correct information about a particular medication and how it works (active ingredients vs. inactive ingredients) and the contraindications (other medications it reacts badly with) that are involved with this medication, especially if you take other prescription medications regularly, taking that sleeping pill could be a total crap shoot.
Unfortunately, it could be a crap shoot where you might just “crap out”.
We are here to help.
Whether you're an insomniac desperately looking for a cure, or someone who has trouble falling asleep, we are here to assist you in making a good decision.
